Microsoft has just rolled out the latest update version 1903 for its Windows operating system. The update brings several new features and along with that and includes a new ransomware protection feature to Windows Defender, which is a built-in virus protection software for Windows 10.
Those who are not aware of ransomware, these are a kind of virus that encrypts the data on the infected computer and then ask for ransom in the form of cryptocurrency to decrypt it.
So, if you are worried about your PC data protection and want to activate this feature, follow our step-by-step guide.
Pre-requisites:
- Windows 10 1903 update or newer
- Working internet connection
First things first:
- If you are not sure which Windows 10 version is installed on your PC, head to Windows Settings -> System-> About and scroll down to locate ‘Version’.
- Also, if you find that the 1903 version is not installed, head to Windows Update and check for the update.
Steps to follow:
1.Click on Start menu
2.Search for Windows Security and click on it or head to the Settings app and navigate to Update & Security
3.Under the Update & Security, head to Virus & Threat Protection option
4.Scroll down and locate Ransomware Protection and click on the option Manage ransomware protection
5.Enable Controlled Folder Access and login into Microsoft account to enable to protection
6.After this, click on configure Controlled Folder Access and select the folder you want to protect and monitor for the ransomware.
Also, do keep in mind, if you are using any third-party virus protection software like Norton, McAfee, etc then all these features will be managed by it and not the Windows Defender.
